Tax relief is another significant aspect of the customs office's duties, with the Magdeburg office granting a total of approximately 202 million euros in tax relief in 2024.

The Department of Examination Service carried out 101 examinations and 1,383 tax inspections last year, resulting in follow-up investigations and reclaims totaling 4.26 million euros and refunds of 705,193 euros.

In terms of Handling Cross-Border Goods Traffic, 240,959 customs declarations were processed last year, with the export category accounting for the largest share.

Security and Order Protection saw the seizure of 706,971 cigarettes, approximately 670 kilograms of water pipe tobacco, and more than 200 liters of liquids. Moreover, 388.44 kilograms of illegal fireworks were confiscated last year, resulting in over 200 years in prison sentences being imposed.

Finally, the Combating Black Work and Illegal Employment efforts led to damages to social security totaling approximately 14.2 million euros in 2024.
