Shell and Cash Group: A Potential Challenge for Cash Withdrawals
Cash Machines to Disappear by June: No More Cash Withdrawals Available Locally - Adjustments in Cash Withdrawals: Elimination of Limit for Withdrawals
Enjoying your favorite snacks at a Shell station might come with a new twist. According to reports from the "Cologne City Newspaper" (KSTA), Shell gas stations may soon stop offering cash withdrawals, courtesy of the Cash Group's plans. And this group, which includes heavyweights like Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank, and Postbank, aims to pull the plug on the service by the end of June.
The 1000 Euro Cash Limit - No Minimum Turnover Required
At around 1300 Shell stations, this change will roll out. Right now, customers get the option to withdraw up to 1000 Euros without the need for a minimum turnover, only paying the usual ATM fee if their bank is not part of the Cash Group. But with the Shell-Cash Group partnership winding down, what's next for customers?
There's no word yet about potential partnerships with other banks to fill the gap.
For Cash Group customers, fetching cash is about to get tricky. Among the participating banks, Postbank and Deutsche Bank are gearing up to shut down nearly half of their branches by the end of 2026.
Plummeting ATM Count
The landscape of traditional banking options is shifting rapidly. In 2018, there were 59,000 ATMs nationwide, but in 2023, that number dropped to 51,000, with the trend pointing downward. Digital payments are rocketing, and ATM explosions are a worrying trend.
