Celebrating 33 Years: Hourly Service throughout 2023 and Beyond
Cheers to the Ingolstadt Airport Express! This trusty fleet of sleek MAN tourist coaches has been whisking passengers between Ingolstadt and Munich Airport since 1992.
The Airport Express (Line X109) has been nothing short of a triumph since its inception on May 17, 1992. Back then, nearly 40,000 passengers hopped on this nifty shuttle service annually. Flash forward to 2024, and that number had exploded to over 140,000.
Mayor Dr. Michael Kern extols the success story: "The Airport Express is a top-notch service for traveling from Ingolstadt to Munich Airport, boasting comfort, quality, and an unbeatable hourly service yyup with its modern coaches and the airport lounge at the North Station, replete with convenient parking facilities."
2025 saw the addition of three new MAN buses, each jam-packed with high-end amenities. So, fret not about parking at the airport when you're a passenger on the Airport Express. Your comfy ride commences straight away in Ingolstadt, thanks to the airport lounge and prime parking facilities at the North Station. Other stops include the ZOB at platform 21 and Kurt-Huber-Straße. For prior arrangements, the Airport Express also stops at the Agip gas station at the Langenbruck exit on the A9 motorway.
Dr. Robert Frank, SBI Managing Director, chimes in: "Since the end of the Corona pandemic, the Airport Express has picked up where it left off in 2019, relentlessly striving for maintained excellence on the Airport Express."
Snagging a ticket is a breeze,, either via the VGI app or at the VGI customer center in Mauthstraße, ticket machines, and advance sales outlets. Real-time departure times are exhibited via DFI displays at the Ingolstadt stops, thanks to the control center at the North Station. On-the-go travelers can also check departure times on the VGI app for all stops, including Munich Airport.
The Airport Express has been operating its regular hourly service 365 days a year for the past two years. The service kicks off at 3:00 AM from the North Station and whiskers passengers to Munich every 15 minutes until 10:15 PM. In reverse, buses depart Munich Airport every hour on the hour, starting at 5:00 AM and wrapping up at 12:15 AM.
