Altered Traffic Patterns Expected in Bochum Starting From Monday
In the upcoming weeks, several changes will affect traffic in Bochum. Starting Monday, the A40 motorway between the Bochum-Harpen and Westkreuz junctions will be completely closed in both directions due to bridge reconstruction work on the Schlachthofbrücke near Bochum. This closure is expected to last for 15 weeks from August 6, 2024[1].
During this period, traffic will be detoured onto the A448 and A43 motorways. For those travelling from Essen to Dortmund, the detour route will be via A448 at Bochum West interchange, then A43 at Bochum/Witten interchange, reconnecting with A40 at Bochum interchange. The route for those travelling from Dortmund to Essen will be reversed accordingly.
Additionally, the Autobahn GmbH Rhineland is renewing the surface layer of the road during this time. The A40 motorway will partially close on Monday, affecting evening rush hour traffic.
Meanwhile, local roads such as Dr.-C.-Otto-Straße, Universitätsstraße, and Hochstraße will also experience some changes. The city of Bochum will be investigating and fixing anomalies in the supply lines that have been discovered.
In Wattenscheid, the Hochstraße renovation is expected to last until August 22nd. Road surface renovation will take place specifically at Hochstraße 26 and Otto-Brenner-Straße. Traffic can pass by the Universitätsstraße median strip area in one lane during the renovation. A one-way street in the direction of August-Bebel-Platz will be set up for the Hochstraße renovation.
Dr.-C.-Otto-Straße in Dahlhausen will temporarily become a one-way street. The street will be closed in the direction of Dahlhausen, from the car repair shop to the branch "Auf dem Holte".
