Anton Eser assumes role as Robeco's Head of Investments
Robeco, a leading global asset manager with over USD 222 billion in assets under management, has announced the appointment of Anton Eser as its new Chief Investment Officer (CIO), effective 1 September 2025. Eser will join the Executive Committee and succeed Mark van der Kroft, who will retire on 1 October 2025.
Eser brings over 25 years of experience in the global financial markets to Robeco. He began his career at Aegon UK, where he helped launch the firm's global credit business. Since then, he has spent 13 years at Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM), joining in 2006 and progressing to Co-Head of Global Fixed Income in 2013 and CIO in 2016. During his tenure at LGIM, Eser led a 350-strong investment team across various asset classes and played a key role in transforming the company into a global asset manager with over USD 1.5 trillion in assets under management. He also spearheaded LGIM’s ESG integration and developed the Future World fund range.
Since 2021, Eser has served as CIO at 10X Investments, a fintech specialist in multi-asset solutions for the South African market.
Mark van der Kroft, who has been with Robeco since 2000, has been instrumental in building the successful company Robeco is today. He has been CIO since 2020 and significantly shaped Robeco's investment philosophy and culture. In a statement, Robeco's CEO Karin van Baardwijk thanked van der Kroft for his "outstanding leadership" and wished him well in his upcoming retirement.
Eser and van der Kroft's tenures at Robeco will overlap, with Eser starting as CIO on September 1st and van der Kroft retiring on October 1st.
Robeco's assets are mostly integrated with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors, making Eser's extensive global experience and leadership in diverse investment strategies crucial in driving the firm's continued growth and aligning with its strategic ambitions.
10X Investments is a fintech offering multi-asset solutions for the South African market, where Eser has been CIO since 2021.
The institute made the announcement on Thursday.
Eser's extensive experience in finance, having served as CIO at both Robeco and 10X Investments, will be instrumental in furthering Robeco's business by aligning with its strategic ambitions, particularly in the area of investing with an emphasis on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors.
Robeco, with its focus on ESG investing, will benefit significantly from Eser's leadership in diverse investment strategies, accumulated over 25 years in the global financial markets, as he assumes the role of Chief Investment Officer (CIO).
