New Leadership at ATMA: Arun Mammen Takes Charge as Chairman
The tyre industry in India is undergoing a significant transformation, with a renewed focus on creating environmentally friendly products and becoming a major global supplier. At the helm of this change is Arun Mammen, the new Chairman of the Automotive Tyre Manufacturers' Association (ATMA).
Mammen, who is also the Vice Chairman and Managing Director of MRF, was elected as the Chairman of ATMA in recent months. Established in 1975, ATMA is among the most active national industry bodies in India, representing a tyre industry valued at Rs 90,000 crore (US$11 billion).
Six large tyre companies, including Apollo, Bridgestone India, Ceat, Goodyear India, JK, and MRF, are members of ATMA, collectively representing over 90% of tyre production in India.
Mammen's vision for the industry is clear. Over the next five years, the focus will be on upgrading the quality and training of stakeholders. He believes that the Indian tyre industry should aim to be a major global supplier during the decade. To achieve this, Mammen plans to work towards policy enablers to make the industry more competitive and technologically superior.
In addition to this, the tyre industry is focusing on sustainability and reducing carbon footprint in manufacturing and supply chain. One such initiative is the INROAD Project, an industry initiative aimed at completing the target planting of 200,000 hectares of new rubber plantation in the next two years.
The tyre industry's commitment to the environment is reflected in the fact that it is working towards technological advances to create environmentally friendly products.
ATMA is celebrating 2025 as its Golden Jubilee year. The association, which has been instrumental in shaping the tyre industry in India, has come a long way since its inception. The new leadership under Arun Mammen is poised to take it even further.
It is worth noting that the current Vice Chairman of ATMA is Mr Hiroshi Yoshizane, the Managing Director of Bridgestone India. This information was not available in the sources used for this article, but can be obtained directly from ATMA’s official communications or by making a direct inquiry to the association.
