Asahi Group Hit by Qilin Ransomware, 27GB of Data Leaked
Japanese beverage giant Asahi Group has confirmed a ransomware attack, with the Qilin gang claiming responsibility and leaking 27 GB of stolen data. The incident has caused significant operational disruption.
The Qilin ransomware group, known for its recent prolific activity, has struck again. It has taken credit for three other attacks on Japanese companies this year, making it the most active threat group in the third quarter of 2025. In August alone, Qilin accounted for 16% of all ransomware attacks.
Asahi Group, a major player in the beverage industry, fell victim to this cyber-attack. The company confirmed an unauthorized data transfer from its servers, with the stolen information including sensitive employee details and crucial business data such as financial documents and development plans.
The attack led to substantial operational disruptions. Asahi suspended order and shipment operations in Japan and temporarily shut down its call centers. The company is currently working to resume operations, including launching manual order and shipping processes.
The Qilin ransomware group continues to pose a significant threat, with Asahi Group being its latest high-profile target. The stolen data, including sensitive business information, could potentially impact Asahi's operations and competitive standing. Asahi has not yet responded to Qilin's claims, and the situation remains under investigation.
