ASTRO America Unveils Finalists for First Actionable In-Situ Awareness Challenge in Additive Manufacturing
ASTRO America has revealed the finalists for its first-ever Actionable In-Situ Awareness Challenge in additive manufacturing. The challenge aims to accelerate real-time sensor and monitoring technologies in aerospace and defense applications. Live demonstrations will take place in Panama City, Florida.
The five finalists, selected from a competitive field, each offer a unique approach to in-situ monitoring for metal additive manufacturing. Additive Assurance provides optical-based monitoring with AI-driven analytics for melt pool and surface deviations tracking. Phase3D introduces fringe projection interferometry to visualize build layer height variations in real time. Addiguru delivers camera-based thermal monitoring and cloud-enabled analytics for defect detection and classification. Applied Optimization offers simulation-based, real-time modeling tools to predict and correct thermal anomalies. Jentek Sensors offers high-resolution impedance-based sensing for layer-wise inspection and process signature analysis.
The finalists will showcase their innovative technologies at Maritech Machine in Panama City, Florida. The challenge focuses on providing actionable insights from raw sensor data to enhance part quality and reduce scrap rates in additive manufacturing.
