Barcelona Contemplates Acquiring Brazilian Talent from Corinthians, According to SPORT News Reports
FC Barcelona allegedly has its sights set on acquiring Brazilian midfielder Breno Bidon, who currently plays for Corinthians, as per reports from SPORT, which relied on unidentified sources for this information.
The Spanish newspaper suggests that the 19-year-old, who is currently putting in work for the Sao Paulo giants, is the most likely choice that Barcelona has at their disposal in the Brazilian market at this point in time.
At the beginning of the year, the scouting department dispatched personnel from Catalonia to Brazil to watch the Copinha final between Bidon's Corinthians team and Cruzeiro. It was Bidon's team that emerged victorious in that match.
Although the scouts were keeping a close eye on Gabriel Moscardo at the time, who Barcelona had expressed interest in potentially signing, things ended up working out differently for the defensive midfield pivot, who was believed to be a potential successor to Sergio Busquets. In the end, Moscardo joined Paris Saint-Germain as part of a deal that cost €20 million ($20.85 million).
Despite joining PSG, Moscardo ended up being loaned out to Stade Reims, where he hasn't been able to live up to the expectations that come with being a 19-year-old.
There have been plenty of positive reviews about Bidon and his technical skills, as well as his good game sense. He's more of an attacking midfielder, having been dubbed a number 10 in Brazil. However, he could fit in as a left interior midfielder in Hansi Flick's squad, offering some competition to the likes of Pedri and Dani Olmo.
Bidon needs to work on his physicality, but there's no denying that he's made significant strides in his development since moving up to the professional ranks.
During the recently concluded 2024 Brazilian Serie A campaign, Corinthians was in danger of relegation. However, includes Bidon and former Barcelona star Memphis Depay played crucial roles in helping their team reach two semifinals and qualify for the 2025 Copa Libertadores.
Bidon's contract with Corinthians runs until 2028, and Transfermarkt currently values him at €8 million ($8.34 million). However, SPORT believes that Barca may be able to negotiate a lower initial fee by offering less upfront but more in variables.
Breno Bidon's impressive performances at Corinthians have caught the attention of FC Barcelona, with Hansi Flick seeing potential for the young midfielder to compete with Pedri and Dani Olmo in his squad. Despite Gabriel Moscardo joining Paris Saint-Germain, SPORT suggests that Barcelona could negotiate a lower initial fee for Bidon, considering his contract with Corinthians runs until 2028 and his current market value of €8 million.
