Barcelona will serve as the location for Inditex's digital fulfilment center
Inditex, the global fashion retail behemoth, has unveiled plans to expand its Tordera-Palafolls complex in Catalonia, Spain. The expansion will involve an addition of 100,000 square meters to the existing 165,000 square meters, leading to a 60% increase in distribution capacity.
Pablo Isla, Inditex's President, disclosed the expansion plans but refrained from sharing specifics about the investment or the expansion strategy. However, he confirmed that the former Massimo Dutti headquarters will be repurposed into an online distribution center for Inditex.
Previously, Inditex's online logistics operations were handled at the Meco central in Madrid. With the expansion of the Tordera-Palafolls complex, some of these operations may shift to Catalonia. The complex, home to brands like Massimo Dutti, Oysho, Bershka, Stradivarius, and Lefties, will undergo this transformation.
Inditex has earmarked 190 million euros to bolster its presence in Catalonia, with the expansion of the Tordera-Palafolls complex being a key part of this overall investment. The new operator for Inditex's online logistics at the Inditex-built logistics center near Barcelona will be XPO Logistics.
This announcement was made in February, signifying another significant stride in Inditex's growth trajectory. The Tordera-Palafolls complex, previously dedicated to Inditex's online business, will now serve as a pivotal hub for the retailer's online operations.
The expansion of the Tordera-Palafolls complex is anticipated to generate new job opportunities and stimulate the local economy in Catalonia. Under Pablo Isla's leadership, Inditex continues to exhibit its commitment to innovation and growth in the fashion retail sector.
