Bayreuth grants approval for Augustiner-Gaststätte construction plan

In the heart of Bayreuth, the Augustiner guesthouse project in the Old Castle has taken another significant step forward. Mayor Thomas Ebersberger announced this development in the latest meeting of the urban development committee.

The Old Castle, now owned by the Edith Haberland Wagner Foundation, was purchased in 2021 with the intention of creating a guesthouse. The foundation has now received a building permit for the new Augustiner guesthouse. However, construction work is set to begin only after the resolution of the entrance problem.

The entrance solution for the guesthouse is currently under discussion, with two proposed alternatives. The builder has suggested moving the entrance with a staircase leading to the courtyard, which would require a legal security agreement with the owner of the courtyard - the Free State of Bavaria. An alternative solution proposed by the city of Bayreuth aims to keep the existing entrance at the corner of courtyard/Maximilianstraße.

The mutual agreement will determine which entrance solution will be implemented. The legal security agreement with the owner of the courtyard will be a part of this agreement. Clarification and implementation of access to the guesthouse is a condition before it goes into operation.

The final decision on the entrance solution for the new Augustiner Gasthaus in the Old Castle will be made by the city of Bayreuth. The solution for this problem is expected to be clarified in the coming weeks. Once resolved, construction work can commence.

This development marks another milestone in the revitalisation of Bayreuth's Old Castle, and the community eagerly awaits the opening of the Augustiner guesthouse.
