Belarusian banks enact new currency regulations
In the banking sector of Belarus, some notable changes have been introduced by VTB and Belagroprombank. As of September 10, 2021, Bank VTB has ceased offering settlement accounts in euros for new agreements. However, the commission for crediting cash in Belarusian rubles and other foreign currencies remains unchanged. The commission for crediting cash in euros at VTB has not been explicitly stated to have changed.
Meanwhile, Belagroprombank has introduced limits on cash withdrawals from ATMs abroad and set a maximum cash withdrawal limit using payment services at 500 rubles, $160, or €135. The maximum cash withdrawal limits and ATM usage for foreign currencies at Belagroprombank remain as previously stated. For cash withdrawals exceeding the set limit, the bank recommends using a bank payment card.
VTB has also made some positive changes for its clients. They have significantly reduced the commission for topping up current accounts of physical persons in US dollars in cash. Additionally, starting October 15, VTB will reduce the commission for crediting dollars to current accounts from other banks.
In a separate development, Alfa-Bank has extended its dollar exchange promotion until September 30. This opportunity is available to clients aged 55 and above. Furthermore, Alfa-Bank has announced that purchase and sale rates for US dollars will be the same for some clients.
It is important to note that these changes only affect new agreements at VTB; existing client accounts will continue to function as before. As of the current search results, specific names of the banks affected by the ban on opening new settlement accounts in euros are not mentioned.
These changes reflect the ongoing evolution of the banking sector in Belarus, aiming to provide more efficient and cost-effective services to its clients.
