**Warren Buffett Donates $6 Billion in Berkshire Hathaway Stock to Five Foundations**

In a significant philanthropic move, legendary investor Warren Buffett has announced the donation of $6 billion worth of Berkshire Hathaway Class B shares to five foundations. The announcement, made in late June 2025, marks a change in Buffett's donation strategy, as he had previously been donating substantial amounts to the Gates Foundation.

The donation brings Buffett's total contributions to these foundations since 2006 to approximately $60 billion, a figure that underscores his commitment to philanthropy. The Gates Foundation remains the primary recipient of Buffett's philanthropy, with the majority of his Berkshire Hathaway shares gradually transferred over the years.

Each Class B share of Berkshire Hathaway stock was worth $485.68 at its most recent close on June 27. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Trust will receive 9.4 million shares from the donation, the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation will receive 943,384 shares, and the Sherwood Foundation, Howard G. Buffett Foundation, and NoVo Foundation will each receive 660,366 shares.

Buffett's reputation on Wall Street is built on his strategic approach to investing, which emphasizes bargain hunting and conservatism. This approach has been instrumental in his success, with his fortune currently valued at approximately $145 billion. Buffett's conservative approach has also contributed to the impressive performance of Berkshire Hathaway, as the increase in his Class B stock surpasses the broad U.S. stock market's return of 14.1%, including dividends.

The announcement did not specify the distribution plan for the remaining fortune after Buffett's death. However, Buffett had previously announced that he plans to cease donations to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation upon his death, allowing his children to decide the distribution of the remaining fortune.

Berkshire Hathaway, the company from which Buffett is donating the stock, owns a diverse portfolio of businesses such as Geico and Dairy Queen. The company's success, coupled with Buffett's strategic investments, has enabled him to make such substantial philanthropic contributions.
