BMW Outsells Mercedes in Sales and Lowers Forecast - BMW Outperforms Mercedes in USA & Germany Despite China Losses
Both BMW and Mercedes-Benz have reported losses in China, with Mercedes-Benz' sales plummeting by 27% and BMW's dropping by 0.4%. Despite this, BMW's sales have outperformed Mercedes-Benz' in the USA and Germany.
BMW's sales increase is partly due to a weak comparative quarter in the previous year. The company's core brand saw a 6% rise, while Mini and Rolls-Royce saw increases of over a third and 13% respectively. In Germany, the BMW iX1 electric SUV recorded 11,543 new registrations up to August 2025, ranking seventh among the most popular electric cars this year.
However, BMW's global electric car sales declined slightly by 0.6% from January to September 2025, as customers await the launch of new electric models next year. Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz' luxury top-end models saw a 10% increase, driving growth for the company, and their full-electric vehicle sales remained stable in the third quarter.
BMW has lowered its profit forecast due to disappointing sales in China and delayed tariff refunds, despite reporting better sales figures than Mercedes-Benz in the third quarter. Both companies face challenges in the Chinese market, with BMW's sales in the USA running significantly better than Mercedes-Benz' in the first three quarters.
