Bremen Chamber of Crafts Marks 175 Years With Celebration and Focus on Future Challenges

The Bremen Chamber of Crafts is celebrating its 175th anniversary this month. Around 300 guests attended the ceremony on March 15 in the Upper Town Hall, marking the occasion with speeches and tributes to the craftsmanship sector.

Mayor Andreas Bovenschulte praised the craftswomen and craftsmen for their efforts, highlighting the importance of craftsmanship in society. He noted that craftsmanship is needed more than ever and thanked all those involved.

The Bremen Chamber of Crafts, likely the oldest in the world, was founded in March 1849 due to the first Bremen Constitution. Today, it has around 5,400 member businesses. Jörg Dittrich, President of the Central Association of German Crafts, congratulated the jubilee and praised the chamber's regional importance and diversity.

Andreas Meyer, CEO of the Bremen Chamber of Crafts, addressed the challenges facing the sector. He highlighted the shortage of apprentices and skilled workers, a pressing issue for many small business ideas. The chamber aims to be a modern service provider, helping member businesses overcome such challenges.

The Bremen Chamber of Crafts, with its 175-year history, continues to support member businesses in training, digitalization, succession planning, and climate protection implementation. As it looks to the future, the chamber remains committed to fostering craftsmanship and addressing the sector's challenges.
