Cadillac Unveils High-Performance Optiq-V Electric SUV
Cadillac Anticipates Optiq-V to Bolster Its Reputation in the Performance Sector
Cadillac has announced the release of the Optiq-V, a limited edition of its compact battery-electric crossover, set to hit U.S. showrooms this fall. This high-performance variant boasts significant upgrades in power, driving dynamics, and interior styling, positioning it as a formidable competitor in the growing market of performance electric vehicles (BEVs).
Performance Specifications
The Optiq-V's powertrain remains a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive system, but with a substantial boost in power. It produces 519 horsepower and 650 ft.-lb. (881 Nm) of torque, a considerable increase from the standard Optiq's 300 hp and 354 lb.-ft. (479 Nm) of torque. The vehicle's 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) time is an impressive 3.5 seconds with Launch Control engaged.
The battery pack remains an 85-kWh lithium-ion unit, but the EPA range drops from approximately 302 miles to around 275 miles due to the sportier tuning. The Optiq-V's design includes branded appointments such as a carbon-fiber splitter, diffuser, rear spoiler, V-mesh grille, and Brembo calipers.
Driving and Handling Features
The Optiq-V introduces a V-Mode driving mode that includes launch control and a "Competitive Mode" chassis setting for enhanced handling. This mode adds torque vectoring on both front and rear axles, providing a more agile driving experience. Although it lacks magnetorheological dampers found on some other high-performance Cadillacs, the Optiq-V offers an adaptive suspension system tailored for sportier dynamics.
Interior and Design
The Optiq-V is a two-row, five-seat SUV with distinct blue accents and optional blue seatbelts and front seatbacks. Available interior color schemes are primarily black and white. It features quilted leather upholstery, optional carbon-fiber trim, and extensive blue-themed interior accents, differentiating it from the standard Optiq. Exterior touches include a black roof with black side mirrors and a panoramic glass roof (non-opening vent).
Technology and Safety
Both versions come with advanced safety aids such as adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane keeping assist, pedestrian detection, surround-view camera, and Cadillac's hands-free Super Cruise system as standard. The Optiq-V is distinguished by a large 33-inch diagonal LED display with integrated Google Built-in software.
Looking Forward
The Optiq-V prioritizes enhanced power and performance, offering 219 additional horsepower and 296 more lb.-ft. of torque than the standard Optiq. This increase results in a quicker 0-60 mph time but reduces the driving range due to the sportier tuning. Upgraded brakes, chassis, and adaptive suspension, plus exclusive interior and exterior design elements, contribute to the Optiq-V's more aggressive and luxurious character compared to the standard Optiq.
The Optiq-V's release comes amidst a growing interest in performance BEVs, with industry analysts and forecasters expecting this segment to have a bright future in the overall BEV market. As the automotive industry shifts focus towards BEVs, the Optiq-V represents Cadillac's commitment to delivering high-performance electric vehicles that cater to both performance enthusiasts and mainstream consumers.
