California Lifts Ethanol Cap: Gas Stations Can Now Sell Cheaper, Cleaner Fuel

California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed a bill, AB 30, allowing gas stations to sell higher-ethanol fuel immediately. This move makes California the last state to lift the 10 percent cap on ethanol fuel blending.

The new law permits fuel suppliers to sell gasoline blended with up to 15 percent ethanol. This change is expected to save consumers money, with higher-ethanol fuel being approximately 25 cents cheaper per gallon than traditional gas. The switch to higher-ethanol fuel could also help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with California's climate goals.

With the signing of AB 30, California joins other states in offering higher-ethanol fuel options. Consumers can now benefit from cost savings and the environmental advantages that come with this cleaner-burning fuel.
