Central authorities establish two committees with the aim of revamping the management of industrial land.
The Kuwaiti government has taken a significant step towards modernizing and improving the management of its industrial land sector. Minister of Commerce and Industry, Khalifa Al-Ajeel, has established two high-level committees with the aim of overhauling industrial land management and improving related policies and processes.
The first committee, chaired by the Director General of the Public Authority for Industry, includes representatives from various ministries such as Commerce and Industry, Finance, Justice, Public Works, Interior, Kuwait Municipality, Kuwait Fire Force, and the Environment Public Authority. In its expanded composition, the committee also includes representatives from the ministry of Justice.
The role of the first committee is multifaceted. It is tasked with identifying obstacles to construction projects, resolving site relocation issues, clarifying responsibilities among government entities, and enhancing coordination in the industrial sector. In addition, the committee will prepare detailed reports on the current state of the industrial land areas and the corrective measures implemented.
On the other hand, the Industrial Land Monitoring Committee, in its unchanged role, will conduct comprehensive surveys of all plots managed by the Public Authority for Industry, detect violations, and ensure legal action is taken. The committee is authorized to request all necessary information and can consult experts when needed.
The committees are empowered to establish specialized work teams to carry out specific tasks. They have one month to present a final report, extendable with ministerial approval. The committees commenced their work following their first meeting yesterday.
The establishment of these committees is part of a broader effort to address challenges in the industrial land sector. The aim is to facilitate integrated approaches, potentially in collaboration with regional partners, to leverage comparative advantages for manufacturing and industrial development, as indicated in talks about integrated industrial zones with Egypt.
