A fire erupted at the Chevron oil refinery in El Segundo, California, on Thursday night, sending towering flames into the air and causing concern among nearby residents. The blaze was still active on Friday morning but had been contained within the facility's fence line, according to Chevron's statement.

The fire broke out at the refinery, which can process up to 290,000 barrels of crude oil daily, producing gasoline, jet, and diesel fuels. Despite the size of the refinery and the intensity of the fire, no injuries were reported, and all personnel were accounted for. LA County Supervisor Holly Mitchell confirmed that fire crews had successfully contained the blaze to one section of the refinery.

A shelter-in-place order for nearby Manhattan Beach was issued initially but was lifted on Friday. Residents were urged to stay indoors due to potential hazards, although no evacuations were ordered. The cause of the fire has not been determined, and the person leading the investigation has not been specified. California Gov. Gavin Newsom's office was closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with state and local authorities.
