"A Fortune for All: Pavel Durov's Legacy"
Children set to inherit multi-billion fortunes of Telegram CEO
In an extraordinary move, the CEO of Telegram, Pavel Durov, has announced his plan to evenly distribute his staggering fortune among more than 100 of his children. Officially, he is father to six, but through sperm donations over the past 15 years, he has fathered over a century's worth of offspring in 12 different countries.
Despite the potential for major disputes when billions are at stake, Durov has made it clear that he wants to prevent his heirs from engaging in sibling feuds. "I don't treat any of my children differently," Durov asserted in an interview with Le Point. "Some were conceived naturally, others through sperm donation. They all deserve equal rights."
Durov, worth an estimated $14 billion according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, aims to ensure that his kids learn self-reliance and establish themselves instead of depending on his immense wealth. To achieve this, he has stipulated in his will that his children will not have access to their inheritance until at least 30 years following the release of the will. This means the funds will only be available starting June 19, 2055.
The delay is intentional, according to Durov, who expressed his desire for his children to live ordinary lives, establish self-trust, and develop their own abilities rather than relying on his bank account. After his passing, Telegram will continue under a non-profit foundation.
When questioned about his decision to write a will at such a young age, Durov responded that the risks involved in his ventures have made him many enemies, including powerful states. Having positioned Telegram as a haven for free speech and information, he acknowledged that it also provides a relatively easy platform for criminals to communicate.
Despite ongoing investigations into alleged child pornography and money laundering on Telegram, Durov dismissed these accusations as "absurd."
