City Hall of Chelyabinsk provides remarks on the suspension of electrical rental services
Kick-scooter Chaos in Chelyabinsk: City Takes Action on Road Safety Concerns
In the vibrant city of Chelyabinsk, the streets have seen an unusual sight: electric kick-scooters seized and left abandoned. The city administration has taken matters into its own hands following a spike in accidents involving these rented mobility devices.
As reported by "Novyi Den", the frenzy surrounding electric scooters has been silenced, at least temporarily. Residents have noticed that the scooters are no longer operable, with some locked up and bearing notices suggesting an investigation is underway.
Later in the day, employees from the affected companies began to collect the scooters from the streets.
City officials have shed light on the situation, citing their efforts to establish guidelines for safe scooter use. On May 6, 2025, the city administration forwarded an agreement outlining these guidelines to the kick-scooter operators in Chelyabinsk. The agreement lays down several safety norms, including speed limits, restrictions on certain territories, and prohibitions on alcohol-impaired riding, multi-rider scooters, and children under 14 years old.
However, the operators have yet to respond to this agreement, leaving the city administration frustrated. "Nearly every day, we witness disregard for safety rules and a lack of compliance with our agreed-upon arrangements," they lamented.

Stay safe on the streets: Tips for Electric Scooter Riders
The recent development in Chelyabinsk's transportation industry, centered around electric vehicles like scooters, has led to a series of safety concerns. To address these issues, cities worldwide, including ours, have turned to measures such as stricter regulations, public awareness campaigns, and restrictions on high-risk areas. In response to these concerns, local finance authorities have proposed guidelines for safe scooter use, which include speed limits, territory restrictions, and helmet regulations. While these guidelines have yet to be agreed upon by the industry operators, city officials remain hopeful for a safer lifestyle for both scooter users and pedestrians.
