City's first project unveiled on REME site: "A Vibrant Urban Artwork"
In the heart of Moenchengladbach, a new residential quarter is rising on the former military REME site. The new construction area, which includes Lots 2 and 3, will see the Gladbach being renaturaized, creating an attractive green and recreation area.
The new construction area in Lürrip is not without challenges, but Lot 1 shows what is possible in terms of development. The executing construction company for this project is Anton Küpper Baumeister Hoch- und Tiefbau. The development work on Lot 1 is scheduled to be completed by the first quarter of 2026.
On Wednesday, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the new construction area in Lürrip. Dr. Ulrich Schückhaus, chairman of the EWMG management board, stated that the new residential quarter in the middle of Moenchengladbach is being created with space for social diversity, short distances, and quality of life.
A total of 1.5 million euros is being invested in the new construction area for urgently needed housing. EWMG will start marketing the 14 building plots for detached single-family and semi-detached houses to private builders in parallel with the completion of Lot 1. The plots in the new construction area will be allocated through three different procedures: highest bid, points system, and lottery based on a fixed price.
The new construction area in Lürrip is intended to be a lively piece of the city. It covers approximately 3,800 square meters of road surface and around 530 meters of canal. A boulevard-like foot and cycle path runs through the new construction area, offering good connections to the main station and the S-Bahn halt in Lürrip.
In the medium term, around 300 residential units are to be created on three lots in the new quarter on the former military REME site. Besides housing, a primary school and kindergarten are planned on the site of Lot 1 in the new construction area.
EWMG had already tendered a building site for multi-family houses with underground garage at Compesmühlenweg, where 29 residential units are planned, with at least 50% publicly subsidized. The new construction area in Lürrip, starting with Lot 1, marks the urban connecting axis from the REME site to the old village center of Lürrip.
The new quarter on the former military REME site will feature the Gladbach being renaturated, creating an attractive green and recreation area, making it an exciting addition to Moenchengladbach.
