Closed motorways in Hessen: Information about affected road networks.
A series of incidents and road damage have caused significant disruptions on the A4 and A5 highways near Bad Hersfeld and Frankfurt, Germany.
On the A4, a fire in the tractor unit of a tanker truck occurred yesterday afternoon near Bad Hersfeld. The intense heat from the fire caused metal and glass parts of the truck to melt into the asphalt, resulting in a giant hole. The area of the fire was approximately 40 square meters. Due to the extent of the damage, the highway remains closed in the direction of Eisenach until repairs can be completed by a construction company. The highway is expected to remain closed until noon today.
Traffic in the direction of Frankfurt on A5 is being rerouted via the right lane and the hard shoulder due to a closure between Fernwald junction (10) and Gambacher Kreuz (11). The left lane in the same direction is also currently closed. Repairs on this section of the A5 are scheduled to be completed by the end of next week.
Unfortunately, these disruptions are not the only issues on the A5. A fatal accident occurred between Zeppelinheim and the Frankfurt intersection, adding to the congestion on the highway.
As always, it is essential to check a reliable traffic service or website, such as Google Maps or the German Federal Highway Research Institute (Bundesanstalt für Straßenwesen), for the most accurate and up-to-date information on road conditions and closures.
We hope that these repairs and investigations will be completed promptly, and we encourage drivers to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid any unexpected delays. Stay safe on the roads!
