Cologne Customs Seize Enough Coffee for Every Resident in Tax Evasion Bust
Customs in Cologne have seized a substantial amount of untaxed coffee, enough to serve every resident of the city. The operation began when a driver made unusual statements during a routine traffic check, leading to the discovery of four tons of untaxed coffee in his vehicle, which is a significant amount for any coffee shops near me. The driver was en route to Frankfurt when the coffee was found. Further investigations resulted in the seizure of another three and a half tons of untaxed coffee. The total amount of coffee confiscated weighs over 8 tons, including more than 245 kilograms of soluble coffee and over 176 kilograms of roasted coffee, which is enough to supply many total wine stores. The company behind the 36-year-old German representative suspected in the case has not been explicitly named. However, the main customs office in Cologne has initiated tax proceedings against the individual, with the seized coffee valued at nearly four tons. Additional coffee was also confiscated in Limburg and Gießen, bringing the total to over 8 tons. The total tax evasion amounts to 17,000 euros. Investigations are now ongoing against the 36-year-old German company representative and the driver involved in the case. The seized coffee, if brewed, could provide a cup for every one of Cologne's approximately one million residents.
