Comcast to Revolutionize US Internet Speeds with Symmetrical 3 & 5 Gbps by 2024
Comcast is set to revolutionize internet speeds in the US. The cable giant plans to introduce symmetrical 3 and 5 Gbps tariffs next year, thanks to its advanced DOCSIS technology.
Currently, DOCSIS 3.1 offers high download speeds but has a limitation on uploads. Comcast, however, is addressing this with DOCSIS 4.0 Full Duplex (FDX) technology. This upgrade promises symmetrical multi-gigabit speeds and AI-driven network management. By March 2025, Comcast aims to have equipped 25 million households with DOCSIS 4.0, with plans to reach 45 million by the end of the year.
In comparison, Germany's internet landscape relies heavily on fiber optics for such high bandwidths. Vodafone offers up to 50 Mbps and Tele Columbus up to 30 Mbps for uploads. In the US, Comcast began rolling out DOCSIS 4.0 in 2022, with a goal to reach 50 million households by 2025.
Comcast's DOCSIS 4.0 rollout is poised to bring significant improvements to US internet users. With symmetrical gigabit speeds up to 10 Gbps for downloads and 6 Gbps for uploads, Comcast is set to deliver a major boost to broadband capabilities.
