Commuter Rail Disruptions: Key Railway Line in Bavaria to be Closed for a Week

Come next week, rail passengers between Nuremberg and Ansbach should brace for travel restrictions. A representative from German Railway has announced that the route will be completely shut down for a week, due to the construction of a new railway bridge in Heilsbronn, within the district of Ansbach.

From May 26th at 4 am to June 2nd at 4 am, the route will be off-limits for the installation of the new bridge. It's full steam ahead during this week as around-the-clock work will be underway. As a result, the route between Nuremberg and Ansbach will be off-limits, rendering the branch line Wicklesgreuth-Windsbach service out of commission as well. Replacement transportation via buses will be provided for both routes.

Nuremberg-Ansbach Railway Line Shutdown for a Week

Duration: May 26th (4 am) to June 2nd (4 am)

Further Info: Nuremberg-Ansbach closed, branch line Wicklesgreuth-Windsbach also out of operation. Shuttle service via buses is in place.

The newly constructed bridge will be integrated into the rail network on May 26th. This steel-reinforced concrete structure, approximately 21 meters long, 13 meters wide, and 6 meters high[2], will replace the existing level crossing according to German Railway. Other railway work such as track renovation and rail replacement is also included in the shutdown period. The total costs for the railway, federal government, and Free State amount to approximately 7.3 million euros.

After railway traffic resumes, construction work to connect the bridge to the existing road network will commence, scheduled to be completed by October 2026. Once that's done, the level crossing will be dismantled[3].

Important Railway Line in Bavaria to be Replaced: Bridge to Replace Level Crossing

The new bridge will ensure the safety of road and rail traffic by replacing a level crossing in Heilsbronn. After the completion of rail traffic-related construction work, construction work for the connection of the bridge to the existing road network will follow, with an estimated completion in October 2026[1]. Once the connection work is done, the level crossing will be eliminated. (kam/dpa)
