Companies within the Schwarz Group are advocating for resource autonomy in their sustainability report.

The Schwarz Group, a leading international retail company, has reported significant progress in its sustainability initiatives, as outlined in its joint sustainability report published on July 24, 2025. The report covers the full business year 2024, during which the group made notable strides in various areas, including energy production, waste management, and packaging design.

One of the key highlights is the group's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint. In spring 2025, the independent SBTi reviewed, validated, and approved the Schwarz Group's short-term climate goals, paving the way for their trackable progress within the Net-Zero commitment. The group generated around 370,000 megawatt hours of electricity through photovoltaic systems in the business year 2024, marking an increase of approximately nine percent compared to the previous year. This electricity production is equivalent to the annual consumption of 106,500 households.

The Schwarz Group's holistic circular strategy, REset Resources, is shaping resource management across all sectors and countries within the group. This strategy defines group-wide goals to conserve resources and close material loops, with the aim of further developing the plastic strategy REset Plastic into the holistic circular economy strategy REset Resources.

In terms of waste management, 88.6 percent of the Schwarz Group's total waste was recycled, reused, composted, or used as animal feed in the business year 2024. This demonstrates the group's commitment to reducing waste and promoting a circular economy.

Packaging is another area where the Schwarz Group is making significant strides. The group has pledged to design the packaging of their private label brands to be maximally recyclable by 2030. They aim to reduce the virgin material in the single-use packaging of their private label brands by 15 percent (absolute) by 2030. Furthermore, the group plans to use 65 percent of recycled material in the packaging of their private label brands by 2030 and 30 percent of recycled material in the primary plastic packaging of their private label brands by the same year.

The Schwarz Group has also committed to a Net-Zero commitment to the SBTi, aiming to reduce all greenhouse gases caused along the value chain to net-zero by 2050. For more detailed information on the REset Resources strategy, the group's official publications, or their website (www.nhb.schwarz) would provide the most accurate and up-to-date information.
