Construction of the western tramway experiencing delays, impacting Tram 19

The ongoing construction of the Tram West Tangent (Tram Westtangente) in Munich is facing delays, primarily due to challenges in urban infrastructure and coordination with other transport projects. These delays have necessitated adjustments in replacement traffic, including extended or modified bus services to compensate for the suspended tram sections along the planned route.

The main reasons for these delays are the renewal of the main water pipe and the poor soil conditions at certain intersections. Complex permitting processes, difficulties in integrating tram infrastructure into existing roadways, and sometimes unexpected ground conditions or utility relocations have also contributed to the delays.

As a result, Tram 19 will be replaced by buses in the Pasing Bf. to Lautensackstraße section until December. Bus lines 130 and 157 will be rerouted eastwards until August 14. The stops at Schäufeleinstraße and Agnes-Bernauer-Straße will be relocated during this period. Replacement buses 19 and N19 will adjust their route between Willibaldplatz and Agnes-Bernauer-Platz, with certain stops being omitted but alternatives available.

For the most current and precise details, visiting the official Munich public transport authority (MVG) websites, westtangente.mvg.de and mvg.de/trambau, is recommended. Passengers are advised to stay informed by signing up for the 95.5 website newsletter for updates on the Tram West Tangent and other related news.

The construction site is located in a narrow area due to maintained traffic, causing further complications. The poor bearing capacity of the soil in the intersection area required the exchange of the soil, which added to the time lost in the construction. The delays have resulted in greater time losses for other construction works as well.

Despite these challenges, the MVG is working diligently to complete the construction and restore normal tram service as soon as possible. Passengers are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly and check the MVG's website for the latest updates.

  1. The challenges in urban infrastructure and coordination with other transport projects, such as the renewal of the main water pipe and poor soil conditions, have led to delays in the Tram West Tangent construction, which may also affect the industry of transportation finance, especially in the public-transit sector.
  2. The extended bus services along the Tram West Tangent route, necessitated by the delays, indicate a need for more funding in the public-transit industry to ensure proper transportation for Munich citizens during the construction period, addressing financial considerations as well.
