Construction on the Extension of Sverdkovskaya Street in Krasnoyarsk to Begin Soon
In the heart of Krasnoyarsk, a contract has been awarded for the development of projects aimed at reconstructing Sverdlovskaya Street and building an elevated pedestrian overpass nearby the park of flora and fauna "Roev Ruchiey". Both projects will be carried out by AO "Graжданпроект".
Sverdlovskaya Street, infamously known as the road of eternal traffic jams, is about to get significantly wider. The project envisions expanding the roadway to four lanes, and on certain stretches, up to six.
The stretch to be renovated will cover approximately 4 kilometers - from the stop "Лесоперевалочная база" to the beginning of the R-257 highway.
The contractor is expected to plan comprehensive urban development for the area. This includes designing a drainage system, bike lanes alongside the road, sidewalks, benches, sound barriers, a bridge across Bazaikhya, and pedestrian crossings, except in the "Roev Ruchiey" area. Here, traffic lights and speed humps will be completely removed, and a viaduct will be built instead.
Pedestrian crossings on Sverdlovskaya Street will become regulated, except in the "Roev Ruchiey" area, where they will be replaced with a viaduct. This viaduct will be equipped with lighting and ramps for mobility-impaired individuals.
The project is divided into four stages:
- From the city limits (Sverdlovskaya, 303) to the old DPS post (Sverdlovskaya, 269a);
- From the old DPS post (Sverdlovskaya, 269a) to the building at Sverdlovskaya, 126;
- From the building at Sverdlovskaya, 126 to the street Syibirskaya;
- From Syibirskaya to the stop "Лесоперевалоchnaia baza".
The cost of the contract for the reconstruction of Sverdlovskaya Street is approximately 61 million rubles. All work must be completed by 30 April 2026.
To enhance the comfortable and safe movement of residents and visitors to the popular leisure spot – the park of flora and fauna "Roev Ruchiey" – a modern elevated pedestrian overpass will be built on Sverdovskaya Street. The viaduct will be equipped with lighting and ramps for mobility-impaired individuals.
The designers must create three options for the exterior design of the overpass.
The cost of the contract for the construction of the overpass is approximately 17 million rubles, and the completion date for the work is also set for 30 April 2026.
Both initiatives are aimed at solving one of the pressing transportation issues in the city – the chronic traffic jams on the way out of the city towards Divnogorsk. Particularly challenging conditions occur at the intersection with the Nicholas Bridge overpass, where Sverdlovskaya narrows from five lanes to three, and then becomes two-lane. This creates severe traffic congestion, especially during rush hour.
Land for the expansion of the road started being reserved last autumn. Now the project is moving into the active implementation phase.
After reconstruction, Sverdlovskaya Street will become more "fast-moving" and comfortable for drivers, while the viaduct at "Roev Ruchiey" will simultaneously increase pedestrian safety and ease the traffic on this stretch of road – traffic lights will no longer slow down the flow of traffic.
