Construction Plan in Kreuzberg: Proposed Structure in the Historic Industrial Complex
In the bustling district of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, two industrial courtyards are undergoing significant changes. The GSG courtyard near Bergmannkiez and the ensemble at Zossener Straße, both managed by the GSG, are witnessing growth and development.
The existing buildings on the sites already boast around 19,000 square meters of gross floor area. The GSG courtyard near Bergmannkiez, one of many industrial courtyards maintained by GSG throughout Berlin, currently houses over 100 commercial units, accommodating a diverse range of professionals such as printers, lawyers, architects, visual artists, designers, and photographers, among others.
Meanwhile, the ensemble at Zossener Straße, with a history dating back to 1905, is undergoing a modern expansion. The business service provider GSG is overseeing the project, which is being planned by the architectural office Thomas Hillig Architects. According to the plans, around 9,000 square meters of new usable area will be created, with the modern extension building harmoniously blending into the existing ensemble in terms of its volume and extent.
The expansion at Zossener Straße is not the only project in the Kreuzberg area. Adalbert-Höfe is set to be expanded by two new buildings by 2023, and the Rudolfkiez area is planning to create a new cultural area named "Tamara-Danz-Höfe". However, these are separate developments from the GSG courtyard near Bergmannkiez.
Similar expansion projects have been executed by GSG in other parts of the city, such as the expansion at the Gebauer courtyards in Berlin-Charlottenburg. The architectural office JUNGES ENGEL was responsible for the planning of the expansion of the industrial courtyard of GSG at Zossener Straße in Berlin-Kreuzberg.
The expansion project at the GSG courtyard near Bergmannkiez is scheduled to be completed by the first quarter of 2024, bringing fresh opportunities and spaces to the vibrant district of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg.
