It's Time to Navigate Dresden's Traffic Chaos: Postplatz Renovation Starts June 29!
Construction work overtakes Dresden Postplatz, causing traffic disruptions in nearby transportation networks
June 29, 2025, is going to be a game-changer for commuters in Dresden! The central Postplatz intersection is undergoing an urgently needed facelift, causing a headache for trams, buses, and cars alike. The Dresden Public Transportation Company (DVB) has announced that this construction work will last a whopping three weeks, ending on July 21.
What's the Deal with Traffic?
Since this renovation takes place during the summer holidays, you can expect many routes to adjust their schedules. In the vicinity of the Postplatz, road closures will appear on popular streets like Wilsdruffer Straße and Wallstraßen. Car traffic might experience some discomfort, but the Wilsdruffer Straße underground garage will remain accessible.

Why Such a Fuss?
DVB has revealed that the heavily used Postplatz intersection is worn out after more than 20 years of tireless operation. Therefore, the entire track system, along with four adjacent junctions, will be completely renovated. The new intersection, comprising 675 meters of track and weighing approximately 60 tons, will be installed in shifts, even on weekends.
Other improvements like modernizing overhead lines and power supply, renovating an old telecom shaft, and removing drainage pipes are also part of the overhaul. The estimated cost of this transformation? A hefty 1.9 million euros, according to DVB.
