Consultation by the Commission on the draft legislation aimed at safeguarding workers from potential job loss risks.
The Financial Control of Illegal Work of the Customs (FKS) is conducting a nationwide and regional targeted inspection today, aimed at combating illegal work and employment in the construction industry across the federal territory.
Approximately 2,800 customs officers are participating in these inspections, visiting construction sites to ensure employers have properly registered their employees for social security and that foreign workers have the necessary work permits and residence titles.
Sarah Garbers, an official within the German General Customs Administration, serves in a leadership role and is the contact person for press inquiries. Her contact information is: Telephone: 0228/303-0, Email: [email protected].
The FKS inspections contribute to the detection and punishment of violations, with specific minimum wages applying in the roofing, electrical, and scaffolding trades. In all other construction sectors, the general statutory minimum wage of 12.82 euros gross per hour applies.
These coordinated inspections are an important tool for reducing societal acceptance of illegal work, aiming to maintain a fair and legal work environment in the construction industry. The inspections also aim to identify any fraudulent claims for social benefits.
A press release with the preliminary overall results of today's operation will be issued tomorrow. The press release can be found on the website of the General Customs Administration: http://www.zoll.de.
The FKS conducts these inspections based on a risk-oriented approach, making sure that the construction industry remains a legal and fair place of work for all. Punishment will be imposed if such agreements are discovered during the inspections.
These ongoing efforts by the FKS are an essential step in combating illegal work and employment, ensuring a level playing field for businesses and protecting the rights of workers.
