Customs Raid Nets 342kg of Illicit Water Pipe Tobacco in Bremen, Ganderkesee
Customs and Excise Office Hannover has conducted searches in Bremen and Ganderkesee following investigations into suspected tax evasion involving water pipe tobacco. The suspect is accused of producing and selling the tobacco illegally without paying taxes.
During the searches, approximately 342 kg of water pipe tobacco, precursor materials, and production equipment were seized. This adds to the earlier seizure in April 2024 of around 200 kg of pipe tobacco intended for the suspect's illegal production. The total potential tax loss is estimated at at least 50,000 euros. Around 15,000 euros in cash was secured for asset confiscation. Investigations and evaluation of the seized evidence are ongoing.
The Customs and Excise Office Hannover continues to investigate the case, with the suspect accused of evading taxes through illegal water pipe tobacco production and sales. The seized tobacco, equipment, and cash highlight the scale of the suspected operation and its potential impact on the local economy.
