Customs Seize 15,000 Unpaid Cigarettes on A3, Man Arrested

Customs officials in Schweinfurt have seized 15,000 untaxed cigarettes, leading to a tax loss of around €2,900. A 47-year-old east European man, driving a truck, was arrested and later released on bail. The discovery was made on the A3 motorway in the district of Kitzingen.

The man, who has not been identified, was found to be transporting the cigarettes hidden in a tabletop and wooden construction wrapped in plastic foil. The Schweinfurt customs control unit, responsible for traffic routes in Lower and Upper Franconia, made the discovery. They regularly detect such violations and prevent the entry of prohibited goods. The driver was allowed to continue his journey after posting a security bond, but a criminal investigation has been initiated against him.

The seized cigarettes resulted in a significant tax loss. The customs authority reminds the public that information about their work and duty-free allowances can be found on www.zoll.de. The unit remains vigilant in preventing such incidents on traffic routes in the region.
