Leidos Secures $129.7 Million Contract with the FBI for Biometric Services Support
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has awarded a five and a half year contract worth $129.7 million to Leidos for providing support to the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division’s Fingerprint Analysis Support Team (FAST) Biometric Services program.
The contract, aimed at modernizing and enhancing the FBI's biometric identification capabilities, reinforces Leidos' role as a key partner in advancing federal law enforcement technology infrastructure.
Under the terms of the contract, Leidos will continue to develop and maintain biometric services within CJIS, with a particular focus on fingerprint analysis through FAST. The company's collaboration with CJIS, which started in 2018, has led to incremental improvements in the Next Generation Identification (NGI) system, the FBI’s advanced biometric identification system.
The NGI system, acknowledged as the world’s largest and most efficient electronic repository of biometric and criminal history information, is set to undergo enhancements under Leidos’ support. Notable features of these enhancements include the Repository for Individuals of Special Concern and the Rap Back service, which notifies authorized users of criminal activity related to individuals holding positions of public trust.
Leidos has introduced agile methodology and development operations practices in conjunction with CJIS test, verification, and validation teams, improving software development and collaboration since early 2016.
This contract is an extension and expansion of Leidos’ partnership with the FBI, aiming to strengthen biometric services essential for criminal justice and law enforcement operations. In essence, the $130 million contract provides sustained technical and operational support to the FBI’s CJIS biometric programs, with a focus on fingerprint analysis and strengthening the NGI biometric identification system and related biometric services.
