Daily Operated Trains and Passenger Usage on BJD Services

In the heart of Europe, Belarus continues to rely heavily on its extensive railway network, with no official announcements of an increase in domestic train ticket prices for 2025.

Belarusian Railways, the nation's primary railway company, has been serving a high volume of passengers, particularly on routes to Russia. Since the beginning of 2025, over 2 million passengers have travelled on these routes, according to available information. However, no reports indicate any fare hikes in this context.

On a broader scale, rail fares across Europe have seen a year-on-year rise of about 3%, primarily affecting major international routes such as London-Paris and London-Brussels. This trend is part of a broader European movement rather than specifically affecting Belarusian domestic fares.

Within Belarus, train travel remains a popular and affordable mode of transport. Common domestic routes, like Minsk to Grodno or Brest to Vitebsk, previously cost around 8-18 BYN. As of the latest sources, these fares remain unchanged, and no updates suggest an increase in 2025.

Local public transport in Belarus, such as metro and buses in Minsk, also remain inexpensive, with fares under 1 BYN.

However, recent developments within Belarusian Railways reveal that some ticket prices will indeed increase. The cost of travelling by regional business class trains from Minsk to Bobruisk will rise by 55 kopecks, while the increase for interregional economy class trains (second class) from Minsk to Vitebsk will be Br1.13 (coupe) and 82 kopecks. The average increase in train ticket prices is expected to range between 5 and 15%.

These increases apply to both train and electric trains, and they affect urban lines within two tariff zones, such as Minsk - Krasnoe Znamya, as well as urban lines within one tariff zone, like Minsk - Gorodische.

For specific updates on particular routes or ticket types within Belarus, it is recommended to check official communications from Belarusian Railways or local news sources. As of now, no new publicized rate changes or affected routes are available from recent international or travel reports.

Belarusian Railways, with its extensive network of approximately 1,300 trains running daily, including 650 passenger trains and 600 freight trains, transported 28 million passengers in the first half of 2025. Moscow, St. Petersburg, Adler, and Murmansk are the most in-demand routes for passenger traffic on Belarusian Railways.

The company, which operates on 5,500 kilometers of tracks and employs over 60,000 workers, transports over 100 million tons of cargo each year.

Despite these changes, Belarusian Railways continues to play a crucial role in the nation's transportation infrastructure, offering affordable and reliable services to its citizens and visitors.
