Contract sealed for future salaries at Daimler Truck - Daimler Truck concludes future tariff arrangement

In a significant development, commercial vehicle manufacturer Daimler Truck has signed a future collective agreement with IG Metal, securing the future of its operations in Germany until 2035.

The agreement, known as the "2035 Future Security" initiative, rules out compulsory redundancies at Daimler Truck AG in Germany until the end of 2034. This marks a departure from traditional works agreements, providing employees with stronger rights and a greater sense of job security.

The agreement also outlines concrete development plans for Daimler Truck sites in Berlin, Kassel, Mannheim, Wörth, Gaggenau, and Leinfelden-Echterdingen. These locations will continue to exist, with a focus on future-oriented product developments to ensure competitiveness.

Michael Brecht, Chairman of the General Works Council, highlighted that while efficiency improvements are part of Daimler Truck's strategy, cost-cutting alone is not sufficient. The agreement ensures that job cuts will not be part of the strategy, despite recent announcements of planned workforce reductions across Germany.

The "2035 Future Security" provision counters earlier plans announced by Daimler to cut around 5,000 jobs in Germany by 2030. This initiative provides a long-term commitment to job security and site viability at Daimler Truck locations in Germany.

The agreement comes amidst broader challenges in the German automotive and supplier industry, where job cuts and insolvencies are occurring. However, this agreement represents a strategic pivot towards innovative and sustainable technologies at these sites.

In summary, the new future collective agreement: - Prohibits compulsory redundancies until 2035 at Daimler Truck AG in Germany. - Secures the operational future of key German locations. - Focuses on future-oriented product developments to ensure competitiveness. - Is a binding contract granting employees stronger rights than previous agreements. - Balances cost-saving efforts with job security and site preservation.

This approach contrasts with the industry's usual response to manage the social impact of job cuts and insolvencies, often involving union involvement. Daimler Truck also pursues strategic adjustments, including maintaining and developing its production capabilities and workforce stability under this agreement.

Thus, the “2035 Future Security” initiative codifies a long-term commitment to job security and site viability at Daimler Truck locations in Germany. The agreement provides more binding force and gives employees more enforcement rights than a works agreement, according to Brecht.

The "2035 Future Security" initiative not only ensures job security for Daimler Truck employees until 2035 but also provides aid for the development of its facilities in Berlin, Kassel, Mannheim, Wörth, Gaggenau, and Leinfelden-Echterdingen, aligning with the manufacturing industry's shift towards innovative and sustainable technologies. In addition, this agreement may foster community aid by contributing to the economic growth and stability of these locations, potentially benefiting the broader community.
