In the heart of Swindon, a new chapter is being written for the Broadwalk bar and club site, as Armada Holdings have submitted a third set of planning proposals to transform the location into commercial units and 23 flats.
The latest proposal, which has been reported by the Local Democracy Reporting Service, aims to optimize site capacity by incorporating an extra floor, with the fifth and sixth floors set back further to ensure the additional height is not visible from the street. This design adheres to positive feedback from the previous application.
The Broadwalk bar and club, formerly located at 32-34 Bridge Street, was demolished in March 2024, following Armada Holdings' first set of proposals, which granted permission for the creation of five apartments on the site. A second set of planning proposals, granted in May 2024, allowed for the construction of 19 flats.
The housing situation in Swindon remains a significant issue, with a high number of empty homes and a long housing waiting list. In 2022, there were 2,036 empty homes in the Swindon Council area, and 6,631 families were on the housing waiting list.
