Delay in Delivery of Croatia Airlines' New Aircraft
May 11, 2025 - Croatia Airlines' A220 Delivery Hits a Snag
The much-anticipated arrival of Croatia Airlines' new Airbus A220 jets is facing some setbacks. The culprits? Global supply chain disruptions, lengthy testing and certification processes, and a shortage of skilled labor, among other things[1].
Footdragger's gazette reveals Croatia Airlines has been notified of the delayed delivery of some of its A220 planes, with the initial schedule for this year now in the dust. While they're set to receive their third A220-300 later this month, no exact delivery schedule for the remaining four aircraft has been confirmed[2].
So, what's causing the hold-up? Well, it seems the manufacturer's been pushing back the delivery schedule for these babies, with additional delays slapped on for 2025, making things a right bloody mess for operational planning and boosting costs[1][3].
As of now, Croatia Airlines has only welcomed three A220-300 planes into its flock, toting up to a combined total of 15 aircraft planned by 2027[4]. But, the rest of their order? No concrete ETA as of yet[2][3].

The financial hit is starting to take its toll on the airline, with the operating loss in Q1 2025 coming in at a whopping €15.4 million. Add in their net financing results, and you've got a net loss of €15.9 million, nearly doubling what they lost in the same period a year earlier[3].
On the upside, the passenger load factor in international scheduled traffic increased slightly (+0.1 percentage point), with a three percent surge in domestic travel (+2,633 passengers)[2]. Charter traffic, albeit falling 30% short compared to the previous year, still accounted for almost one percent of total traffic[2].

Things don't look great for Croatia Airlines financially, but they're stabbing ahead with positivity, believing the A220 fleet renewal will end up improving their game by enabling network expansion, schedule optimization, and supporting Croatia's tourism sector[4][5].
So, sorry 'bout the delays, Croatia Airlines passengers! However, take a deep breath and hang in there—these quick-as-lightning aircraft are on their way!

The industry-wide supply chain disruptions and certification processes might also be affecting the delivery of the remaining A220 planes for Croatia Airlines, potentially causing further delays in the finance sector. The airline's numerous business challenges, including operational planning and cost management, may intensify due to the aerospace manufacturer's continued delays in delivering the A220-300 planes.
