Delay-related compensation: TRC promises complimentary refunds exceeding 10-minute mark
Cool beans! Here's the lowdown on the updated train refund and ticket policies by Taiwan Railways Corporation (TRC), effective June 23rd.
Starting today, if your train is delayed by more than 10 minutes, you're entitled to a full refund, no handling fees attached. Pretty sweet, huh? This moves is all about giving passengers a fair shake when service gets delay-ed.
If you decide to hop on a different train or switch to a fancier seat within two hours of your original scheduled departure, you can still grab a refund for the unused ticket. And if a train breaks down or the trip gets axed due to reasons beyond your control, you'll still get a full refund, no strings attached.
You've got one year from the intended departure date to apply for your refund. As of June 23rd, the handling fee for refunding lost and later recovered tickets is reduced to 10%, with a minimum fee of NT$20. Lost tickets that are found can be substituted for a refund within a year of the departure date, subject to proof of repurchase.
Here's the kicker: from now on, you won't have to refund and repurchase tickets when upgrading your seat. Instead, you just gotta cough up the extra cash to switch to a higher-class ticket. TRC members can also use their reward points to offset ticket prices when applying these new policies.
In unrelated news, TRC has increased ticket prices by an average of 26.8%, effective June 23rd. This affects all services, including local trains. The price hike partially addresses a financial deficit that TRC's been dealing with, so it's all part of the larger picture.
Stay tuned for more updates as TRC launches the first phase of their "membership service optimization 2.0" plan, which increases the reward point redemption limit for TRC members. When you purchase reserved seat tickets and complete the transaction on the same day, the maximum point redemption limit will increase from 30% to 50% of the ticket price. Keep your eyes peeled for more details!
