Delays in Construction Works: Exploring the Causes Behind the Extension
The ongoing Bogestra construction project in Gelsenkirchen-Ueckendorf is facing delays due to the discovery of hollow spaces during sewer construction and the installation of a new traffic light system.
The initial schedule for the project had planned for its completion earlier, but the unforeseen hollow spaces discovered underground have necessitated additional work to ensure safety and stability. Christoph Kollmann, the spokesperson for Bogestra, announced the delays on Wednesday.
The construction site at Bochumer Street/Junkerweg has been the focus of these delays. As a result, the closure of the entrance and exit of Bochumer Street into the Neustadt is expected to continue until mid-July. Passengers wishing to travel further towards the main station and Buer must walk a few hundred meters to the "Rheinelbestraße" stop.
Mobility-impaired passengers are advised to use bus line 383 instead, with specific stops mentioned. A footpath is necessary as a connection between the two stops in both directions.
The work in the area of the Justice Center will take longer due to the hollow spaces. Further switch work is planned for mid-August.
The tram line 302 separation at the intersection of Bochumer Street/Junkerweg has been extended and only allows vehicles to go as far as the "Wissenschaftspark" stop.
Despite these setbacks, Bogestra project management and local authorities are working diligently to complete the project as soon as possible. Sewer work with reinforcement around the hollow spaces is expected to finish in the next few weeks, followed by the installation of the new traffic light system.
