Deutsche Bahn Transforms Köpenick's Transport: S-Bahn & Regional Station Expansion Starts March 2023

Deutsche Bahn is set to transform Köpenick's transport landscape. The company is expanding the S-Bahn and regional train station, with construction commencing on March 17, 2023, and completion slated for December 2027.

The project includes a new western entrance, accessible via a pedestrian bridge over Bahnhofstraße. Residents should brace for road traffic impacts starting this March, with planned closures of Bahnhofstraße and Hammerlingstraße. The station's expansion will see a 220-meter-long, partially covered regional train platform, served by two staircases and an elevator. Despite the changes, tram stops will remain in front of the Forum Köpenick. The entrance building will be widened, and noise protection measures will be implemented. The railway bridge's driveway will be expanded, but no additional traffic lanes will be created. A new pedestrian underpass will be built on the eastern side at Stellingdamm. This expansion is a key part of Berlin Southeast's future regional finance.

The renovation of Köpenick's S-Bahn station into a combined S and regional train station will begin this spring, aligning with the expansion project's completion in 2027. This significant investment aims to improve connectivity and enhance travel experiences for passengers in the region.
