The Mayor-Smidt-Bridge, a vital link connecting the city, is currently undergoing construction. Pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists are advised to use alternative routes due to the ongoing work. The Department of Streets and Traffic (DST) is responsible for the construction phase, and the restrictions are temporary.

The measures taken are aimed at ensuring the safety and longevity of the bridge. After repair, buses, trucks up to 30 tons, cyclists, and pedestrians can cross the Weser Bridge. However, the DST did not mention any changes to the types of vehicles that can cross the bridge after repair or any specific updates regarding the bridge's operational date for trams.

Andrea Voth from the DST has appealed for understanding regarding the temporary restrictions. During the delivery and assembly of components, the riverside path on the Neustadt side will be closed daily from 7 am to 5 pm. Scaffolding builders have been installing a structure for long-term observation on the bridge since July 7, 2025.

The detour due to the bridge construction is expected to last about 30 days. The bridge's stability will be tested after the repair of cable wires, but the DST did not mention any new tests to be conducted on the bridge's stability.

The DST did not mention any changes to the daily closure of the riverside path on the Neustadt side during component delivery and assembly. The Mayor-Smidt-Bridge is expected to be operational for trams again soon, but there is no publicly available update about the timeline for tram repairs or the bridge's operational date for trams.

For the latest status on the Mayor-Smidt-Bridge tram repairs and construction completion date, it is recommended to consult local government transportation authorities or official city infrastructure project updates. The DST thanks all residents and traffic participants for their patience during the construction phase.

  2. After the repair of the Mayor-Smidt-Bridge, various types of vehicles, including buses, trucks up to 30 tons, cyclists, and pedestrians, will be permitted to cross, but there is no information available regarding any changes to the trams' access.
