Eastern German Companies Lose Confidence in Federal Government's Economic Policy
Businesses in East Germany express concerns over the current economic policies of the government, as revealed in a recent survey. - Eastern Companies Express Skepticism Toward Economic Policy in a Poll
Hey there! Let's dive into the recent survey conducted at the Eastern German Economic Forum in Bad Saarow. Seems like business leaders in Eastern Germany are showing little faith that the new black-red federal government will succeed in setting growth impulses for the economy.
According to the survey, a whopping 58.2 percent of respondents are skeptical about the federal government's ability to take effective measures for economic growth. This grim outlook is attributed to numerous challenges that businesses face: first and foremost, excessive bureaucracy and soaring energy prices.
Participating in the Economic Forum this week, company managers, association representatives, and politicians will gather to strategize ways to navigate the tense economic circumstances in the region.
The "Germany - Land of Ideas" location initiative and Deutsche Kreditbank AG commissioned the study, surveying over 1,500 private companies across Berlin, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia with at least 10 employees.
Our region is battling two significant hurdles. Over half (52%) of surveyed companies are struggling to maintain and find employees, and a majority (34.3%) see high energy prices as their biggest challenge.
The federal government has its work cut out, with businesses seemingly dissatisfied with its efforts so far. Philipp Mehne, managing director of "Germany - Land of Ideas" voices concern about the government's credibility.
At the Economic Forum in Bad Saarow, prominent figures such as Federal Minister of Economics Katherina Reiche (CDU) and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil (SPD) are scheduled to appear. Together, they and others aim to discuss and propose solutions to help Eastern German companies overcome these challenges.

- Infrastructure Improvement: Enhanced transportation and digital infrastructure can improve connectivity and aid business operations.
- Support for SMEs: Specific support for SMEs, including access to capital and training, can help this vital sector grow and contribute to economic recovery.
Some of these measures might be factors in the solutions companies are advocating for at the Eastern German Economic Forum. We'll have to wait and see!
