Ecocem Opens €10M R&I Centre to Speed Up Net Zero Cement by 2040

Ecocem, a pioneer in low-carbon cement technologies, has inaugurated a new Research and Innovation (R&I) centre in France. The centre, a significant investment of over €10m, aims to fast-track the development of net zero cement by a decade, targeting 2040. The opening comes on the heels of Ecocem's recent milestones and a €70M commitment to research and development over the past decade.

The new centre will focus on developing low carbon cement technologies using alternative supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) and mineral additions to replace clinker. This aligns with Ecocem's 25-year commitment to low-carbon cement technologies and its scalable ACT (Accelerated Carbon Transition) technology, which is nearing commercial availability.

The centre was officially opened by Niall Burgess, Ambassador of Ireland to France and Monaco. Ecocem's founder and Global Managing Director, Killian Hurley, expressed the company's commitment to widespread adoption of low carbon cement technologies in the cement industry. This, he believes, is crucial to achieving a 1.5°C decarbonisation trajectory.

The new R&I centre is a testament to Ecocem's dedication to innovation and sustainability. With a €10m investment, it aims to accelerate the development of net zero cement, bringing the target date forward by a decade. Ecocem continues to lead the way in low-carbon cement technologies, with ACT poised to make a significant impact in the industry.
