Electric sedan Lucid Air sets a new milestone in electric vehicle efficiency, boasting an unprecedented range.

In a significant milestone for the electric vehicle (EV) industry, Lucid Motors has surpassed Tesla in electric vehicle range, setting a new Guinness World Records title for the longest distance traveled by an electric vehicle on a single charge.

The 2025-2026 Lucid Air Grand Touring model offers an EPA estimated range of up to 512 miles on a single charge, outperforming Tesla's current longest-range Model S variants, which have ranges around 410-503 miles depending on the version. This makes the Lucid Air Grand Touring the top-ranking EV in terms of range for 2025.

The record-breaking drive was completed by London-based entrepreneur Umit Sabanci, who traveled 749 miles from St. Moritz, Switzerland, to Munich, Germany, without recharging. The drive, which included a mix of alpine roads, highways, and secondary roads, was completed using a standard production-spec Lucid Air Grand Touring sedan.

The Lucid Air Grand Touring's electric powertrain demonstrated its capability in this long-distance drive, surpassing the previous EV record of 650 miles by 100 miles. The sedan's 831 horsepower and top speed of 168 mph (270 km/h) also showcase its high performance capabilities.

Lucid's CEO Peter Rawlinson's claim that the company's technology has overtaken Tesla's is given more weight by this new record. Eric Bach, Lucid's Chief Engineer and Senior Vice President of Product, stated that Lucid vehicles offer world-class vehicle efficiency, advanced drive units, ultra-high voltage architecture, and battery management technology.

This record-setting drive underscores the efficiency and range of Lucid Motors' electric powertrain technology. The Lucid Air Grand Touring also boasts a WLTP range of 596 miles (960 km), the highest among any vehicles currently available.

Last year, Lucid Motors set another world record by crossing nine countries on a single charge, also in a Lucid Air Grand Touring. The company's focus on range and efficiency continues to set it apart in the EV industry.

With the Lucid Air Grand Touring's impressive range, performance, luxury, and long-distance capability, it is poised to challenge Tesla's dominance in the EV market. The Lucid Air Grand Touring's ultra-fast charging capability, which allows it to add up to 248 miles (400 km) of range in just 16 minutes, further enhances its usability for long trips.

As Lucid Motors continues to push the boundaries of EV technology, it will be interesting to see how the company's advancements impact the EV market in the coming years.
