MN8 Energy's Gateway to Hunts Point Charging Hub Set to Commence Construction in 2027

MN8 Energy, a leading renewable energy company based in New York, is set to build a freight electric vehicle (EV) charging hub in the South Bronx. The project, known as the Gateway to Hunts Point charging hub, is scheduled to begin construction in 2027, with operations expected to commence by 2029.

Located at the Hunts Point Food Distribution Center, the largest wholesale food hub in the nation, the charging hub will be a significant step towards the freight electrification transformation. The hub will feature 42 EV charging plugs for medium and heavy-duty vehicles, a workforce development center called "The Bolt," and a community solar installation.

The charging facilities will include 32 DC fast charging plugs and ten Level 2 charging plugs, as well as e-bike and e-scooter charging stations. The hub will operate 24/7 with advanced reservation and customer support systems.

MN8 Energy's aim with this project is to build sustainable infrastructure, create opportunities and jobs, improve air quality, and build a more equitable clean energy future for the Hunts Point community. The project is expected to create 46 full-time and part-time jobs through partner organizations.

MN8 Energy's experience with leading Fortune 500 clients provides the technical expertise and operational excellence needed for the South Bronx charging hub project. Michael Miller, Distributed Energy Solutions Manager at MN8 Energy, stated that the company is committed to driving the freight electrification transformation while serving community needs.

In addition to the charging hub, MN8 Energy, Hunts Point, and community group Bronx is Breathing will conduct EV orientation workshops and aim to train 420 commercial drivers over three years. This initiative is part of MN8 Energy's efforts to promote the adoption of electric vehicles and reduce emissions in the South Bronx.

MN8 Energy has collaborated with Mercedes-Benz to develop the nationwide Mercedes-Benz High Power Charging network. The company operates over 900 clean energy projects that represent some 4 GW of renewable energy and battery storage assets across North America.

The Gateway to Hunts Point charging hub is set to make a significant impact on the South Bronx community, contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable, and more equitable future.
