Energy supplier VGI will alter tariffs, effective from 1st August 2025.

In a recent development, the VGI association has announced significant changes to the public transport fare structure and job ticket system, effective from August 1, 2025. The changes were approved at a VGI association meeting on April 29, 2025.

The most notable adjustment is the discontinuation of the weekly ticket option for both adults and children. Instead, from fare stage 4, the job ticket will be a network ticket, encompassing bus and train travel.

The fare adjustment is expected to result in a 6.78% increase across all fare stages. To ensure fairness, rounding effects will be taken into account, resulting in exact Euro and cent amounts. It's important to note that the 6-trip ticket for children will now have a validity period until the 16th birthday.

In an effort to make public transport more affordable, Dr. Robert Frank, Managing Director, emphasizes that options such as the 365-Euro Ticket, Germany Ticket, and favourable job tickets will still be available. He also mentioned that the half-year job ticket will be discontinued, but already purchased tickets will remain valid.

To provide more convenience for passengers, the job ticket will only have four fare stages moving forward. Additionally, the job ticket system will be simplified, offering only two variants: Job-Ticket Classic (for 12 months) for bus journeys and Job-Ticket Premium (for 12 months) for bus and train travel. The Job-Ticket Premium will include train travel, making it a more comprehensive option for commuters.

The changes aim to streamline prices for on-board and advance sales, making public transport more accessible and convenient for all.

For detailed breakdowns of the fare adjustment, including changes in ticket range and the new job ticket system effective August 1, 2025, we recommend checking official announcements from the BTS Skytrain operator (Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Company Limited), the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), and Thailand’s Ministry of Transport.

These sources usually publish detailed fare tables, ticket category changes, concessions for job tickets (corporate passes), and related policy updates. Keep an eye on their official sites or news channels for the latest fare adjustment announcements for Bangkok public transport effective August 2025.

Please note that VGI Public Company Limited is a major provider of advertising media on the BTS Skytrain network in Bangkok, rather than an operator of public transport or fare management. The fare adjustments for BTS or other public transport services in Bangkok (if related to VGI's network) are typically announced by transport authorities or the BTS operator.

We will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as more information becomes available.

The changes in the public transport fare structure and job ticket system, effective from August 1, 2025, will impact not only the transportation industry but also the finance sector, as the 6.78% increase across all fare stages may influence the overall costs for commuters. Moreover, the general-news industry might be keen to report on these developments, particularly regarding the simplification of the job ticket system and the discontinuation of certain ticket options.
