Staying chill, let's get down to brass tacks.

Sefcovic ain't shy about keeping in touch with the US Trade Rep, Jamieson Greer. Their goal? Lock in a deal that's fair, balanced, and here to stay.

German Economic Minister Katherina Reiche (CDU) sees the EU in these chats, despite Trump's tariff threats, standing tall. "The European Commission has laid their countermeasures on the table loud and clear", stated Reiche in Brussels. "It's crystal clear, we're heading into these talks with a strong hand."

In the last week, the Commission put together a list of US products that could face extra EU tariffs, if talks with Washington flop. Now, the 27 EU countries gotta weigh in. And several countries ain't ruling out action against US tech giants, if this feud escalates.

Even the Polish Trade Rep Baranowski is feeling optimistic. "We've seen signs pointing to de-escalation on the American side", he noted, referring to agreements between the USA and China, and the UK. "That's, in my opinion, a good sign we might see negotiations with the EU picking up some speed."

Donald Trump kicked off a global trade war with a slew of severe tariffs back in April 2025. He initially slapped a 20% tariff on EU goods, then quickly scaled it down to 10%. Plus, there's the 25% extra charge on steel, aluminum, and cars—all aimed at EU products.

  1. The European Commission's employment policy, aimed at promoting fair and balanced trade, is a key part of the discussions with the US Trade Representative, as both parties seek to establish a compelling and long-lasting deal.
  2. The ongoing trade negotiations between the EU and the US are not only a matter of business and finance, but also of politics and general news, given the significant impact they could have on the global economy.
