EU-Indonesia Economic Partnership Agreement Business Discussion at Our Website
The European Commission, led by European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maroš Šefovič, has been actively involved in the negotiations of the EU-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). This was evident during the recent 18th round of negotiations, where the Commission hosted a business roundtable.
The roundtable, attended by the CEPA Coalition - a group representing various European and Indonesian companies - served as an opportunity to reiterate the importance of concluding an ambitious and comprehensive CEPA agreement this year. The CEPA Coalition remains committed to advocating for an agreement that reflects the shared aspirations and interests of businesses across Europe and Indonesia.
The CEPA vision includes fostering innovation, enhancing market access, reducing trade barriers, reinforcing intellectual property rights protection, and promoting a sustainable and inclusive economic agenda. The coalition believes that a comprehensive and forward-looking CEPA agreement will further strengthen the existing ties between Indonesia and the European Union.
Collaboration between the two partners is essential to ensure that sustainability drives trade and investment. The CEPA Coalition emphasises the need to avoid regulatory actions that could lead to market access barriers and trade disputes. The coalition is optimistic that the insights gained from the discussions will contribute to the conclusion of the CEPA agreement this year.
The CEPA agreement, if concluded, is expected to benefit businesses and communities on both the European and Indonesian sides. It may also further promote cultural exchange between the two regions. Both sides in the CEPA negotiations demonstrated a strong willingness to make progress on all remaining issues.
The negotiations are ongoing, with the next round scheduled to take place. Both sides must address all remaining issues in a constructive and compromise-oriented spirit to reach an ambitious agreement this year. The CEPA Coalition is hopeful that their involvement in the negotiations will help facilitate a mutually beneficial agreement that will benefit businesses and communities on both sides.
